Hi, I’m Mike Ross - an experienced humanistic, trauma‑informed therapeutic counsellor, mentor and coach. My work is rooted in empathy, reflection and a genuine commitment to helping people understand their experiences and build meaningful, lasting resilience.
I draw on meaning‑focused approaches to support clients in moving toward purpose, clarity, and emotional wellbeing.
I’ve been a qualified therapeutic counsellor and a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) for more than seven years. During that time, I’ve supported hundreds of clients from all walks of life. Many of the people who come to me work in creative industries or are studying for BA or MA qualifications in creative fields—groups who often face unique emotional, motivational, and existential challenges. Supporting creative thinkers is something I’ve come to value deeply, and I’m always inspired by the resilience and insight that emerges through the therapeutic process.
In my counselling work, I support individuals dealing with a wide range of challenges: substance dependence (including alcohol, cocaine, and prescription medication), anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, attachment issues, intrusive or suicidal thoughts, and compulsive behaviours such as gambling, sex, or shopping. I also have significant experience working with neurodivergence—including ADHD, Autism, and AuDHD—and I’m passionate about helping neurodivergent clients understand their internal experiences, develop workable strategies, and cultivate greater self‑acceptance.
Alongside my therapeutic practice, I’m also a trained Specialist Mentor (SM‑MH/ASC) working with higher‑education learners who receive Disabled Students Allowance (DSA). In this role, I support neurodiverse students and those experiencing mental‑health conditions such as generalised or acute anxiety disorder. I help students build emotional regulation skills, develop effective academic strategies, and navigate the pressures of university life. I also offer guidance for DSA applications and provide private mentoring for people who are waiting for assessment or who aren’t eligible for funded support. This mentoring work allows me to blend practical coaching with therapeutic insight—an approach that many students find grounding and empowering.
At the heart of my practice is a commitment to authenticity and collaboration. I believe therapy works best when you feel genuinely seen and safe enough to explore what’s happening beneath the surface. My approach weaves together therapeutic depth, meaning‑centred reflection, and practical tools you can integrate into your day‑to‑day life.
Whether you’re trying to overcome trauma, make sense of a difficult period, break entrenched patterns, or reconnect with your creative or personal purpose, I aim to walk alongside you with warmth, openness, and clarity.
I’m based in Brighton, UK, where I offer in‑person sessions, and I also work online with clients who prefer remote support or who live further afield.
If you’re looking for thoughtful, steady, and meaningful guidance—whether through counselling, mentoring, or coaching—I’d be glad to help.
